After spending more than a decade housed in various locations throughout Georgetown, the Mary P. Shelton Library was built in 1923 through the generosity of a private bequest. The original Carnegie-style building received an addition in 1989, was re-chartered as a county-district library and re-named the Brown County Public Library in 1995, and experienced a renovation and another addition in 1998.
