Background / History

Glen gave the group some background on this interest group and what he hopes to it will become. The group should benefit from the networking opportunities and participation by all types of libraries.

Meeting Schedule / Locations

The group decided to meet every two months. Location may vary.

Virtual Discussion

Glen will create a blog for the group to share information between meetings. Hopefully others in the library community will benefit from it as well. Glen will create accounts for any interest group members who wish to post to the site.

Topics

  • Core technology competencies: Glen distributed samples to the group from a couple of different organizations
    • Ohio Library Council
    • California Library Association
  • The group visited Ms. Dewey, Microsoft’s interesting web search interface
  • Glen discussed the MaintainIT Project. A new resource for managing public access computers
  • Glen highlighted some of the features/issues with the latest Internet Explorer Browser
  • Potential topics for future meetings: browser update/tips, spam, PACs, RFID, web development, audio/ebooks - DRM, gadgets / wireless, open source, gaming, next-gen OPACs, social software, self service, MS Vista

Next Meeting

January date TBD. Location will be the SWON Libraries Office. Glen will contact the group about topics.
