  • Boone County, Campbell County, and Mason Public all reported on their experiences with the Polaris WAM product. All have taken different approaches for usage and authentication. Mason has experienced problems with authentication when patrons use the Safari web browser.

    • Anyone who wishes to contribute to the blog should contact Glen for an account.
    • Glen has posted the last meeting’s notes to the blog. All future meeting notes will be found there as well.
    • Glen highlighted several of the sites under the “Resources” section of the blog
    • Glen will add a search or archives link so that old posts can be easily accessed
  • Technology Continuing Education
    • TechConnections 8 will take place on June 11/12 in Dublin, Ohio. Look on the SWON Libraries Events list for more information soon.
    • Glen is currently presenting a social tools class. If any members have examples of blogs, RSS, wikis, IM, etc. being used in their library please pass them along to him.
    • Glen will teach technology trends classes on March 22 and April 25. Please pass any topic suggestions along to him
    • SWON Libraries is still providing discounts for New Horizons classes. Contact Glen for more information.
  • Apple iPhone
    • At the recent CES show, Apple announced its iPhone, a phone, wide-screen iPod, and web browser all in one.
    • Available in June
    • Discussion followed on its impact in libraries
  • The group discussed how libraries are beginning to make available video on demand
    • Video services like Netflix, TiVo are starting to allow customers to download video via Internet
    • Microsoft now renting movies that can be downloaded and watched on the Xbox.
    • How can libraries keep up?
    • Boone County is offering video via Overdrive
    • Westerville Public Library providing videos of events
    • PLCH is looking into My Library TV
  • Ann Arbor District Library recently released its new SOPAC product
    • Adds user tagging, reviews, and ratings to their catalog (see right side of page for recent/top reviews and tags)
    • Created in-house as an add-on to their III product
    • Sandy noted that AADL is located in a very social community
    • The group discussed the project and how these types of tools are facing both acceptance and resistance in libraries
    • Note: John Blyberg has posted a project update on his blog.
  • Sandy reported that she is looking into producing podcasts at her library. The group discussed podcasts in libraries and looked at Thomas Ford Memorial Library’s Click-A-Story and Teen Audio Reviews.

  • Next meeting will be in March at the SWON Libraries office.
