Exploring E-readers - SWON Libraries E-reader "Sand Box"

Many professionals say 2011 will be the year of mobile devices and e-readers and SWON Libraries is offering an excellent opportunity to acquaint yourself and your staff with some of the most popular e-reading and mobile tablet devices on the market today. In our "Exploring E-Readers" package you can get your hands on the popular Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Nobles Color Nook, Sony's Daily Edition E-reader and the sleek and exciting Apple iPad.

Learn the ins and outs, pros and cons of each device and spend 7 - 14 days sharing with your co-workers, reading some e-books and exploring the technology at your own pace!

All four devices will be loaned to your organization for 1 to 2 weeks so that you can share this new technology with your staff. Prices below include all devices, cables and up to one hour of hands-on instruction with our Emerging Technologies Specialist.

Consultation and Referrals

SWON Libraries provides technology consultation and referrals to contributing member libraries at no cost. Services can be provided via email, phone, instant messaging, and on-site as needed.

Examples of available services include:

  • Evaluation of existing technologies (hardware, software, website)
  • Hardware and software recommendations
  • Cost estimates
  • Recommendations for new services

We can also provide vendor suggestions for your larger technology projects.

Customized Training

In addition to our scheduled technology workshops, SWON Libraries can arrange custom technology training for your library and staff. Classes can be conducted at SWON Libraries' office or at your location. For hands-on training, we provide a portable, training lab. Contact the SWON Libraries office to consult with us on your training needs.

Portable Lab

SWON Libraries ClassroomBorrow our equipment for your in-house projects and training. Member libraries may use our 12 laptops for training, temporary staff stations, and special projects such as inventory. The machines are currently configured with Windows XP and Office 2003.

We will deliver and set up our laptops at your place. Use of the lab is charged by the day and may be used up to one week. If needed, we will set up a temporary wireless network for Internet access. A projector, screen, and wireless access point are also available. Contact the SWON Libraries office for availability
