Speaker(s)

Glen Horton has served as the Technology Coordinator for the SWON Libraries organization since 1999. His duties require him to have experience in a wide range of technologies. He is responsible for providing technology assistance, technology training, and facilitating shared projects within the SWON Libraries membership.

Description

Your library's website should not be treated as a project. It is a place; a destination for your patrons. Like your physical library, your website needs ongoing maintenance and remodeling. In this workshop, Glen will discuss many of the practices and tools that will keep your site running optimally and offer enhanced experiences for your patrons.

Items that Glen will cover include:

  • Facilitating content management
  • Standards compliance and designing for devices
  • Making your site patron-centric
  • Search engine optimization to make your site findable
  • Integrating Web 2.0 tools such as maps, videos, and RSS feeds into your site

Attendees will get hands-on time with many of the tools and services discussed.

Audience

Discussion will focus mainly on concepts and best practices. Technology, publicity, and administrative will take away great ideas for their library's website.
