Description

PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS DELIVERED THROUGH WEB CONFERENCING TO THE SWON LIBRARIES OFFICE.

The second part of the seminar is entitled, “What Was I thinking!” This session uses case studies to highlight examples of the importance of the skill of “reframing”. We do not have control over what happens to us in any given day, WHAT WE HAVE IS control over our responses whether they be to unreasonable requests, handling criticism, negotiating differences or any of the other situations we face. With a skill building approach, participants will learn how to take a situation, examine it from various perspectives, and choose a responsible, realistic and respectful response. Our goal is to use assertive communication to achieve personal effectiveness and good relationships in all our exchanges.

Critical Learning Questions

How does one make a choice in how to respond?
How does one effectively deal with criticism while still learning from it?
What does one do when confronted by aggression?
How does one respond to racist remarks or personal put-downs?

Audience

People of any age or level of experience will benefit from acquiring assertive communications skills such as: expressing messages confidently minimizing misunderstandings turning confrontation into cooperation listening to what is really being said building trust and respect
