Description

A library's web presence has become as important as its physical building. Having an interactive and well-maintained website is critical for providing resources to the growing population of remote users. Many libraries have turned to content management systems (CMS's) to better manage their websites and get more staff involved in site upkeep.

This workshop will highlight the differences between traditional websites and sites built using a CMS; weigh the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a CMS; and showcase blogs, wikis, and other social features that can be easily integrated into a CMS. Attendees will get a hands-on demonstration of open source CMS's such as Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress. Glen will also provide suggestions on where to start when considering a content management system for your library.
